Shivek ’19 from California has thought long and hard about the human brain. About three years ago, Shivek held a sheep brain in his hands and, around the same time, participated in a debate competition concerned with the medical autonomy of adolescents. Suddenly, Shivek became hyperaware of his news proclivity to self-consciousness and risk as a teenager. His deep interest in how the teenage mind works let to his striating Our Teen Brains, an initiative spreading awareness about the teenage brain.

“The communities I often present to consist of a primarily teenage-based audience along with a few parents and caretakers. My presentations are often tailored to the adolescents themselves as they are the one who should be responsible for understanding the changes their bodies are going through. However, my message is also open for parents and caregivers so they can understand what their teenager is going through…
